Apple self-service repair program now supports iPhone 14 series phones and more Mac computers
Hispider learned June 20 that Apple announced it will offer self-service repair for the iPhone 14 Series and other Mac models on June 21.
Next, customers who purchase M2 models of the 13-inch MacBook Air, as well as 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, will be able to get support themselves at Apple Retail Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers.
Note: The Apple Self-Service Repair Program, first introduced in April 2022, provides customers with access to genuine parts, repair manuals and tools.
Apple has also optimized the System Configuration process for iPhone repairs such as display, battery and camera.
Simply put, System Configuration is a post-repair software tool that ensures users are repairing with genuine parts that have been approved and tested by Apple, and that the repaired parts will work properly. The tool will be available free of charge to all users and Apple service providers who participate in self-service repairs.
Once you run System Configuration, you can verify that you are buying genuine parts, update firmware and calibrate parts to ensure maximum performance quality.
In addition, for repairs involving biometric authentication (such as Touch ID or Face ID), System Configuration can also connect the biometric sensor to a secure isolation area on the motherboard to ensure device security and customer privacy.
Notably, Apple also now allows users to launch System Configuration on their own by placing the device into diagnostic mode and following the prompts; it is no longer necessary to contact the self-service repair support team to complete the final step, but the team is still available to assist users as needed.
Apple also announced that Self Service Repair will provide service support for the True Depth camera and top speaker on iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series and M1 chip-equipped Mac desktops in the United States, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
