Apple iPhone became the absolute mainstream of cell phones in Japan: 10 days of work can buy iPhone 14 Pro
Hispider learned from a recent data report released by market research firm IDC that Apple's iPhone dominates the Japanese cell phone market with a market share of 53.8%. This share also reached 55% in the smartphone market.
The report notes that in the first quarter of 2023, Japanese cell phone shipments were 7.75 million units, down 23.6% year-on-year. Among them, Apple iPhone shipments were 4.17 million units, down 13.1% year-on-year, accounting for 55.0% of the market share. And Android phone shipments were 3.42 million units, down 33.6% year-on-year.
Among the market share of each brand, Apple iPhone was way ahead of the others, becoming the brand with the highest share in the Japanese market.
In addition, a website called World of Statistics recently shared the cost required for residents around the world to purchase a 128GB version of the iPhone 14 Pro, with Japan requiring approximately 4% of annual income. Based on 250 working days per year, this means that the average Japanese will only need 10 days to be able to earn enough money to buy an iPhone 14. In comparison, the average Chinese person needs 24 working days.
In addition, Japanese people are also very fond of local "domestic" cell phones. Sharp, FCNT and Kyocera, three local brands, ranked second to fourth with 13%, 8.1% and 7.5% shares respectively. Samsung, on the other hand, ranked fifth with a 6 percent share.
The above is based on the data report from market research firm IDC. In the Japanese cell phone market, Apple iPhone showed strong competitiveness, while local brands were also widely popular.
